William A. Sloat, Sr., 92, of Lancaster, formerly of Elizabethtown, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday December 13, 2017 at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster. He was the loving husband of Theda N. (DeShong) Sloat, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage in April 2017. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Irvin and Ethel (Kautz) Sloat. He was a graduate of the Elizabethtown High School, class of 1944, and proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II in Alaska. William had worked at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot as a supervisory equipment specialist for many years before retiring. He was a member and former trustee at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown. William and his wife enjoyed traveling to places like New England, Branson MO, Florida, Hawaii and Alaska and especially Williamsburg VA.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons William A., II husband of Evelyn J. Sloat, Denver, Roger B. husband of Elaine M. Sloat, Manheim; three grandchildren Brian Sloat, Stacy Sloat, and Stephanie Sheidy; a brother Robert Sloat and a sister Clea Parker, both of Lancaster. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Gramm and Urban Sloat, and three sisters Grace Marie Sloat, Lorraine Helm, and Greta Miller.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Eagle Commons, in Eagle Wing at Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, on Monday December 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM. A time of greeting and sharing will be immediately following the service. Interment with military honors will be in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown.
