Wayne O. Getz, 88, of Lancaster and formerly of North Main Street, Manheim passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Lancashire Hall, Lancaster. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late John S. and Sue Ober Getz. He was the husband of the late Betty J. Hilton Getz who died in 2012. Wayne retired from the former Raymark Industries and Fenner Drives both in Manheim. Following retirement, he worked part-time as a courtesy driver at the former Saturn Car Dealership, Lancaster and delivered flowers for Royer’s Flower Shops. A veteran of the United States Navy, Wayne served in WW II and received several stars and ribbons. He graduated from Manheim Central High School in 1943. Wayne was a charter member and past commander of the Manheim VFW Post 5956 and he volunteered as a driver for the Manheim Ambulance Association. An avid sports fan, Wayne was a volunteer coach for the Manheim youth football and baseball programs.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda S. Lopez of Lancaster, Nancy E. wife of Kevin Shelly of Manheim, two sons, Michael R. Getz and Thomas W. Getz both of Lancaster, six grandchildren, Jereme, Jessica, Kristy, Jonathan, Jennifer, Samuel and one great grandson, Jarred. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert T. Getz.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery, Rapho Township with military honors. There will be a public viewing at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
