Warren A. "Bud" Shirk, 80, of Manheim, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was the husband of the late Phyllis Longenecker Shirk who died in 2008. They were married in 1956. Born in Reading, he was the son of Warren E. and Grace Engle Shirk who both died when he was a young boy. He was raised by Pete and Cora Arnold of Manheim.
Bud served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1955, he then went on to attend Franklin & Marshall College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He worked at the former Raymark Industries, the Fuller Company, and Sloan's Pharmacy all of Manheim. Bud was also a realtor, and eventually retired from Stiegel Printing. He was a two-term president of the School Board for the Manheim Central School District. Bud was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Manheim. He was a member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge, Reading Consistory, the Manheim Lions Club, Manheim Jaycees, the Manheim VFW, and Skullduggers Association. His hobbies included golfing, listening to and recording music, and Manheim Baron’s football. Bud enjoyed the arts, dabbling in watercolors and illustration.
Surviving are two sons: Doug husband of Lynn Dunkle Shirk of Hummelstown, Eric Shirk of Abingdon, MD., a granddaughter, Cori Shirk of Philadelphia, and a sister, Mary Lou Good, of Lancaster. Preceding him in death is a sister, Jane Shirk.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim, on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private in the church memorial garden. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
