W. Richard Weachter, 84, of Manheim, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Masonic Village Health Care Center, Elizabethtown. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Mary Reiff Weachter. He was the loving husband of Joretta Maurer Weachter and they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary at the end of this month. Retired in 1992, Richard worked forty five years at the Fuller Company, Manheim. After retirement, he worked part time for 17 years at the Manheim Auto Auction. He graduated from Manheim High School in 1947 and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Richard was a member of Cornwall United Methodist Church and a former member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim. He served as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent, choir member and he was a Delegate to the Lutheran Synod Convention. Richard was also a member of Junior Chamber of Commerce. He loved to read, hike with his family and bowl. Richard also enjoyed watching sports, especially Philadelphia teams and Penn State. In his earlier years, Richard enjoyed coaching Community League baseball in the Manheim area.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Donald J. husband of Debra A. Shank Weachter of Elizabethtown, a daughter, Linda M. wife of Lon R. Heiser of Manheim, two granddaughters, Lisa wife of Brad Bowser of Akron, Amy wife of Jason Biggi of Dillsburg, four great grandchildren, Brayden, Gavin, Nathan and Sara, a brother, C. Larry husband of Mary Jane Weachter of Manheim and a sister, H. Louise Parson of Manheim.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Cornwall United Methodist Church, 50 Freeman Drive, Cornwall on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be a public viewing at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Please omit flowers.
