Vernon J. Bricker, 84, formerly of Elizabethtown, and Narberth PA passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community Manheim. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Paul and Margie Ulrich Bricker. Vernon worked for over 35 years for Insurance Company of North America INA in Philadelphia; retiring as an officer with the company. Following retirement he worked in customer service for Germantown Savings Bank. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Vernon was the loving husband of Martha Adams "Marti" Bricker and they observed their 18th wedding anniversary in July of this year. His first wife was the late Mary Eileen Flynn Bricker who died in 1991. Vernon was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church Manheim. In 1949 Vernon graduated from Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor of Science degree in liberal arts and was a math teacher and basketball coach for the Palmyra School District. Throughout his life Vernon was a sports enthusiast; he played basketball, baseball, and football in high school and college. He was a well know basketball player and coach. His real sports passion was golf and played year round through all the seasons and weather with his group of buddies. Golf was his life. Vernon volunteered for the Montgomery County Republican Party and the Catholic Youth Organization where he also helped as a basketball coach. Surviving in addition to his wife, is a son, Stephen Scott husband of Bonnie Seggern Bricker of New Smyrna Beach, Fl., a daughter, Ann Gibbs Bricker of Manheim, a step daughter, Rachel Schickling of Lake Harmony, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister, Doris wife of Mylin Messick of Middletown. Preceding him in death are three brothers and one sister. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Father Francis T. Menei officiating. Interment is in Calvary Cemetery West Conshohocken on Saturday at 11:30 AM. Friends may visit with the family on Friday morning at the Hoffer Auditorium from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Vernon's memory to the Pleasant View Retirement Community Benevolent Care Endowment Fund, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
