Theodore D. Kachel, 75, of Lititz, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Shippensburg Health Care Center following a long illness. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Earl M. and Dorothy E. Dorwart Kachel. Ted was the loving husband of Donna I. Mellinger Kachel and they observed their 52nd wedding anniversary in December 2012. He worked as an electrician for many years and served in the United States Marine Corps. Ted attended Grace Church of Lititz and taught Sunday school in his early years. He had a passion for supporting the Pacific Garden Mission located in Chicago, Ill; and the award winning radio program “Unshackled” that he would listen to each week. Ted’s life was one that stressed “acts of service” to his fellow man. His interests included: hunting with his sons, listening to southern gospel music, vacationing with his family at the shore, and attending his children’s sporting activities. Earlier in his life he was able to renovate and remodel an older home for his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are three sons: David B. husband of Cindy Ruhl Kachel of Lititz, Daniel P. husband of Tresse Bailey Kachel of York, Theodore D. Jr. husband of Elizabeth Charles Kachel of Ephrata, a daughter, Karen L. wife of Lawrence Bennett of Lititz, 14 grandchildren, two brothers: Richard D. husband of Jeanne Kachel of Stevens, Thomas husband of Stella Kachel of New Providence, and a sister, Marianne Worley of Bear, Del. Preceding him in death is a brother, Earl Kachel.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at the Grace Church of Lititz 501 West Lincoln Avenue, Lititz on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private in Middle Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at Grace Church of Lititz on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Ted’s memory to Pacific Garden Mission 1458 South Canal Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607.
