Thelma L. Burnham, 98, of Brethren Village, Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Born and raised in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Adon and Maude Lewis Burnham. She is survived by a sister, Doris Beckius of Palmyra.
A graduate of Glassboro Normal School in Glassboro, NJ, she was a teacher for ten years prior to attending Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, where she received her bachelor’s degree in 1951.
After college, Thelma taught at the American School of Guayaquil in Ecuador, South America. She was a principal of the primary grades for ten years before she returned to teaching at Somers Point in NJ, where she retired from teaching in 1984.
A resident at Brethren Village since 1993, Thelma was a born again Christian who made her reservation in Heaven years ago through her faith in Jesus Christ.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service for Thelma at Longenecker Brethren Cemetery, West Orange Street (Route 772) and Longenecker Road, Lititz, on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
