Stanley W. Hosler

On Sunday, October 9th at Brethren Village after 100 glorious years on this earth Stanley W. "Hos" Hosler passed through Heavens Gates. Born on August 9, 1911 in Elstonville, Lancaster County to the late Walter G. and Daisy White Hosler; the first of 11 children. Stanley lived most of his adult life in Salunga where he worked for the former Hiestand Feed Mill till he retired in 1974. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years Elsie Zerphy Hosler who died on March 22, 2006. Stanley was very active in the Salunga Church of the Brethren and when the church joined together with the East Petersburg Church of the Brethren to form Hempfield Church of the Brethren he served as a Deacon, was active in singing in the church choir, and the men's acapella chorus. He was very active in the early years of the Salunga Fire Company serving as an officer and driver. Stanley and his wife enjoyed traveling for many years; they both retired to Brethren Village in 1974 where they spent their remaining years with many friends. Surviving is a brother, Galen husband of Alta Hosler, three sisters: Orpha Foreman, Esther wife of the Reverend Wilbur G. Lehman, Grace Myer, a brother-in-law, Samuel B. Zerphy and his wife Betty J. Zerphy. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Having no children of their own Stanley & Elsie became parent and grandparent role models to many of them. Preceding him in death are three brothers: Paul, Mark, Marlin Hosler, and three sisters: Naomi Hollinger, Ruth Haldeman, and Amelia Buckwalter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the Brethren Village Chapel 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Salunga Brethren Cemetery 48 Holland Street, Salunga on Thursday at 2:30 PM. There will be a viewing at the Brethren Village Chapel on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers. Those desiring may send contributions in Stanley's memory to the charity of one's choice.
