Shirley W. Shronk, 88, formerly of Abington, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Arthur U. and Bessie M. Snyder Warrington. A homemaker, she was the loving wife of the late John M. Shronk who died in July of 2011. Shirley was an active and faithful member of Grace Brethren Church of Manheim. In her early years she taught Sunday school at former churches. For over 60 years she was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, most recently the Lititz Springs Chapter. Shirley was an enthusiastic and passionate volunteer for the YMCA in Abington and Willow Grove, the Red Cross, and the United Way. For 47 years through the Red Cross she taught health and safety, swimming, first aid, and CPR courses. Shirley was proud to be scuba diving certified. She served on five Boards of Directors for the Red Cross. Shirley volunteered and assisted on the Bloomsburg Theater Ensemble. An expert seamstress, Shirley also loved to crochet, knit, and create many needlework projects.
Surviving are two daughters: Judith S. wife of Jack R. Briner of Lititz, Ruth S. wife of Steven G. Bishop of Chapel Hill, N.C., six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Preceding her in death is a brother, Harold W. Warrington.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service in the Hoffer Auditorium at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 12:00 noon with the Reverend Jeffrey L. Dunkle, officiating. There will be a viewing in the Hoffer Auditorium on Saturday morning from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Please omit flowers.
