Selma L. Burdess, 84, of Lititz, and formerly of Lancaster, died peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Bellwood, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl Gensemer Shunk. Selma was a 1952 graduate of Bellwood Antis High School. A homemaker, Selma was the wife of the late Richard L. Burdess who died in January of 1996. Selma was an active and faithful member of Faith Bible Fellowship in Lancaster where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, helped to lead the children’s Holiday programs, and sang in the choir. For many years she was an active volunteer for Child Evangelism Fellowship CEF and organized programs for children in her home. Later in life Selma provided on-line programs for CEF and was lovingly known as “Aunt Bea” to many children that she was able to help throughout the years. Her interests included: crocheting, vegetable gardening and playing board games.
Surviving are two daughters: Gail wife of Robert C. Cundiff, Cynthia wife of Mark Guthrie all of Lititz, five grandchildren: Katrina Hess, Yvonne Hershey, Sean Guthrie, Sherick Guthrie, Shamra Guthrie, a brother, Dennis husband of Judy Shunk, and two sisters: Rita Alberter and Barbara wife of Chuck Brinkman. Preceding her in death are four brothers and four sisters.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Selma’s funeral service at Faith Bible Fellowship, 151 Donerville Road, Lancaster on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 1:30 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Selma’s memory to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Lancaster, 5307 Main Street, East Petersburg, PA 17520.
