Samuel S. “Sam” Shelly, 82, formerly of Manheim passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Luther Acres, Lititz. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Samuel H. and Daisy I. Shank Shelly. He was the loving husband of Carolyn S. Graybill Shelly and they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in April. Sam retired after thirty years at Warner Lambert. He was also a farmer on his family farm in Rapho Township. Sam proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, Manheim where he served as an usher and offering and communion steward. His interests included woodworking, gardening, traveling, riding bicycle and he enjoyed helping his neighbors. Sam loved to spend time with his grandsons, attending their sporting events and riding bike with them.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Cheryl E. wife of Glenn Ruhl of Lititz, two grandsons, Ryan husband of Amanda Ruhl and Jared Ruhl. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Diffenderfer and two brothers, Benjamin and Daniel Shelly.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM. There will be a public viewing from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery.
