Samuel H. Shenk

Samuel H. Shenk, 92, of Manheim, died peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lititz. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Jacob H. and Barbara Ann Hess Shenk. In 1982 Sam retired from the Fuller Company Manheim as a Purchasing Manager where he worked for over 35 years; he also worked for Nissley Winery for 26 years. He was the husband of Violet Zeigler Deibler Lepard Shenk. Sam's second wife was the late Emma Jane Whirt Shenk who died in September 2005 and his first wife was the late Kathryn M. Weidman Shenk who died in December of 1971. A veteran of World War II, Sam served as a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Sam was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster. Other memberships included: Manheim Masonic Lodge 587, Scottish Rite Valley of Lancaster, Valley of Reading, Zembo Shrine of Harrisburg, the National Association of Purchasing Management of Central PA where he served as president in 1961. From 1983 to 2009 Sam served for (VITA) Volunteer for Income Tax Assistance for people in the central PA area. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Philip M. Shenk of Napa, CA., Stuart husband of Naydine Simonds Shenk of Galax, VA., a daughter, Kathy wife of Dennis Penny of Lititz, five step sons: Dr. Donald Deibler of Manheim, David husband of Michelle Deibler of Lititz, Dennis husband of Linda Deibler of Lancaster, Douglas husband of Aaren Price Deibler of Lancaster, Richard husband of Portia Deibler of Myerstown, a step daughter, Brenda Deibler wife of Kenneth Lund of Lititz, and many many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, two sisters: Francis Heisey of Lancaster and Blanche Werner of Willow Street. Preceding him in death are three brothers: Martin Shenk killed in Germany 1944, Henry Shenk killed in Korea 1950, Aaron Shenk died in 1995, two sisters: Suie Ginder died in 2004 and Verna Groff died in 2012. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square, Manheim on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment is in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
