Samuel Clayton Martin, 65, of Manheim passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 10, 2013 after an eleven month battle with cancer. Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Edwin S. and Elizabeth Wenger Martin. He was the loving husband of Lorraine Lehman Martin and they would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in October. Samuel was a truck driver for Gro-Mor Plant Food Company, Leola. Earlier in life, he owned and operated a trucking business. He was a member of Mount Hope Mennonite Church, Manheim. He loved to spend time with his family and he was a foster parent to forty-one children.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Duane L. husband of Gail Myers Martin of Lancaster, Carl E. husband of Ashley Beadore Martin of Manheim, Christopher S. husband of Monica Martin Martin of Manheim, Jeremy C. Martin at home, a daughter, Samantha Martin of Lancaster, seven grandchildren, four brothers, John M. husband of Verna E. Martin of Denver, Paul M. husband of Susan B. Martin of Stevens, Edwin M. husband of Etta Z. Martin of Holtwood, Elvin M. husband of Lois Martin of Lititz, four sisters, Elizabeth wife of Amos Z. Nolt of Peach Bottom, Florence M. wife of Harry Mast of Virginia, Anna M. wife of Ivan Weaver of Missouri, Lydia M. wife of Edward S. Good of Ephrata and stepparents, Eva wife of Isaac Garman of Ephrata. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eva M. Martin.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Hernley Mennonite Church, 746 Lebanon Road, Manheim on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Mastersonville Brethren In Christ Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at Hernley Mennonite Church on Sunday from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM and again at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
