Sally Bender, 73, of Ephrata, and formerly of Manheim, died peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lititz. Born in East Hempfield Township, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Elizabeth Bender Sensenig. Sally retired after she worked over 12 years for Friendly’s Restaurant in Lancaster; previously she was employed at the former Evans Restaurant in Manheim. She was the loving wife of Lloyd C. Bender and they would have observed their 56th wedding anniversary on October 10th of this year. Sally was a member of Ruhl’s United Methodist Church, Manheim. Her interests included: flowers, gardening, cooking, baking, collecting quilts, crafts of all types, traveling, dancing, shopping, going to the beach, taking care of her cats, and doing many of these things barefoot. She had a life-long passion for her family, and enjoyed spending time with her children, and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband Lloyd, is a daughter, Vickie B. wife of Karl Alston of East Granby CT., a son, Douglas S. Bender of Lancaster, six grandchildren: Douglas T., Scott, Jared, Lindsey, Alicia, Ben, a brother, Ronald husband of Gloria Sensenig of Lancaster, and a sister, Kathleen of New Jersey.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Sally’s funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing time on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Ruhl’s United Methodist Cemetery, Rapho Township.
