Rufus C. Good, age 92, passed away Tuesday January 7th, 2025, at Messiah Lifeways in Mechanicsburg. He was born March 5th, 1932, to the late Monroe and Mary (Crouse) Good.
Rufus married Janet Kreider on October 13, 1951, at Mechanic Grove Church of Brethren. Janet preceded Rufus in death.
For the first 10 years of their marriage, Rufus and Janet were farmers. Due to a back injury, Rufus stopped farming and went to Steven’s Trade School in Lancaster. There he received his electrical Journeyman’s diploma. After 2 years, he co-founded Garden Spot Electric Incorporated, which under his sons’ leadership continues to be a successful business today.
Rufus was a member of Grantham Brethren in Christ Church. Together Rufus and Janet served with the Brethren in Christ World Missions, Trans World Radio and Wycliffe Associates. They were founding members at two Brethren in Christ church plants in Lancaster County. In 1989 a request came for an electrician to complete a US Aid project in Zambia at the Macha Hospital. Rufus and Janet serve there, as well as at the BIC Youngway's Guest House in Zimbabwe, the Navajo Mission, India, Chile, and Papua New Guinea. They served as board members of Gospel Tide International Broadcasting. He faithfully served his Lord through the church and mission.
Rufus was a loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, as well as an exceptional gardener.
Rufus is survived by his children, Connie Lee Wiggins of Lancaster, Cathy Mae (Richard) Good of Airville, Anthony A.(Susan) Good of Manheim, Clayton M. (Julie) Good of Manheim, Carol Ann Bailey of Holland, MI, and Gwendolyn (David) Herr of Westfield, NY, as well as by one sibling, Kathryn Kenney of Lancaster, twenty-three grandchildren, and forty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Janet Good, his parents, seven siblings, grandson, Mitchell Good, and son-in-law, Rick Wiggins.
The memorial service will be at 12:00 noon on Monday January 20, 2025, at Manheim Brethren in Christ Church, 54 N. Penryn Road, Manheim. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the service begins. There will be a meal following the services.
