Rose Marie Awkerman

Rose Marie (Root) Awkerman left this earth to be with her Savior on Thursday, December 3 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, PA at the age of 88. She was born in Ephrata, PA on October 4, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary Haller Root. Rose Marie was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Loy C. Awkerman, whom she married September 2, 1949.
Surviving are her two children: Kyle Awkerman, Jr., married to Shirley Wissler, of Lebanon, PA; and Lisa A. Delozier, married to David Delozier, of Wyomissing, PA. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Amy Delozier, of Palmyra, PA; Brian Delozier, of Wernersville, PA; Camrin Edwards, married to Anthony Edwards, of Wernersville, PA; and Lindsey Delozier, of Mill Valley, CA. Preceding her in death are three sisters: Mae Witman, Pearl Eaby, and Betty Brinley.
Rose Marie was a 1945 graduate of Ephrata High School and a 1949 graduate of Lebanon Valley College. She served for more than 40 years as the office and business manager for the Awkerman Veterinary Clinic in Manheim, PA, where her husband Loy practiced. After residing in Manheim for over four decades, she and her husband retired to North Cornwall Township, Lebanon County.
She was a charter member of the Manheim Student Loan Association, a past president of the Women’s Club of Manheim, a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lancaster and a member of the Lebanon Country Club for 60 years.

Rose Marie had a strong faith and was a Bible scholar, an avid reader and great sports enthusiast. She was very knowledgeable on most sports and without hesitation could engage any fan in a local or national sports discussion. She spent many long winter days with a book or knitting project in her lap. She enjoyed the cozy warmth of the second home which she and Loy owned for many years in Lincoln Falls, Sullivan County, PA. While there, she faithfully attended Lincoln Falls Wesleyan Church.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Rose Marie’s memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Lebanon Valley College, Office of Advancement, 101 N. College Avenue, Annville, PA 17003. Burial will be private.
