Robert S. “Bob” McAlpin, 88, of Millersville, formerly of Lititz, went home to be with his Lord & Savior, Thursday May 5, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Sewickley Twp. Westmoreland Co. he was the son of the late Robert S. and Lottie (Chew) McAlpin. “Bob” as he was affectionately known was the husband of Dora (Stober) McAlpin, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage last August.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He helped to build the PA Turnpike in 1949-1950, worked in construction for various companies, and later retired from Fluid Conditioning Products.
Bob loved the Lord, and humbly served Him through serving others. He was a faithful member of the High View Church of God, Ronks, and was a member of the Red Rose Rambler Club. Bob and his wife Dora served as volunteer Sowers, and spent their retirement years serving at Lake Wales Baptist Church, FL, and had gone on various mission trips to Haiti and New Mexico. He also volunteered in Lend-a-Hand, of Harrisburg, helping hurricane victims. Bob’s passion in life was baking pumpkin pies, thus being known as the “PIE MAN”.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Dora, are two daughters Romaine wife of James Erb, Lancaster, Lynne wife of Paul Jeffries, Douglassville; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and one sister Jane Christofano, Greensburg PA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his only son, Staff Sargent Patrick S. McAlpin (1981)
