Robert R. ”Bob” Hoffer, 79, of Manheim, passed away in the comfort of his home on Thursday, October 2, 2014. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Clarence “Smoke” and Irene Herr Hoffer. Bob was the loving husband of Rennie K. Lehman Hoffer and they observed their 52nd wedding anniversary in September of this year. From 1995 until his illness he had been employed as a truck driver for Chemgro Corporation, East Petersburg; previously he worked for Armstrong World Industries, Lancaster, and as an iron worker for 25 years at the Fuller Company, Manheim. Bob had a very strong work ethic. He also worked throughout his life on farms in Manheim, worked part time for the Manheim Auto Auction, and was known for mowing and caring for many lawns in the Manheim area. A veteran, Bob proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Manheim VFW and the Hershey American Legion. For 50 years Bob enjoyed bowling in the ABC League through Manheim Lanes. He had a passion for camping and clamming, and would spend many happy days at Tuckahoe Acres in Dagsboro, Delaware where the family traveled for 40 years. Bob was an avid race car fan; he devoted his time to following races from local micro midget and sprint cars to NASCAR events throughout the season.
Surviving in addition to his wife Rennie, is a daughter, Tammy (Frey) Hoffer of Leesport, a son, Travis C. husband of Tasha Hoffer of Ephrata, four grandchildren: James and Tiffany Hoffer, Matthew and Nathaniel Frey, one great granddaughter, Emma Frey, and three sisters: Geraldine wife of Larry Hershey of Mount Joy, Patsy wife of Larry Hackman of Lebanon, and Barbara Hoffer.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 7:30 PM. There will be a viewing on Friday evening at the Buch Funeral Home from 6:30 PM until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted by the family. Family and friends will gather at the Buch Funeral Home on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 8:45 AM to leave in procession promptly at 9:00 AM for Interment Service at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville to be held at 10:00 AM with military honors.
