Robert L. “Bob” Houck, 74, of Manheim, and formerly of Blue Ball, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Paul and Kathryn Witwer Houck. Bob was the loving husband of Patricia A. “Pat” Byers Houck and they would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary on January 27th. In 1999 Bob retired from Alcoa Incorporated, Lebanon, where he had worked for over 30 years. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the Manheim VFW Post 5956. He was of the Christian faith and a lifetime member of the Manheim Historical Society and the Elstonville Sportsmen’s Association. Bob was a 1961 graduate of Garden Spot High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving, playing pinochle, and attending public auctions. Bob was also an avid Baron football fan. He was a member of the Historic Manheim Preservation Foundation; and was a volunteer at the Manheim Farm Show French Fry Stand for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife Pat, are two daughters: Stephanie, wife of David Berkheiser of Manheim, Jennifer wife of Michael Gerace of Lebanon, two grandchildren: Katelyn Berkheiser and Dylan Berkheiser: one sister Rose Ann Shirk of New Holland, one brother Terry Houck of Ephrata, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is a brother, Darrell Houck.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bob’s funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM. (The family requests that everyone feel free to dress in casual attire.) There will be a viewing on Friday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
