Robert J. “Bob” Schreiber, 87, of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family at the Lancaster General Hospital on Monday, March 4, 2024 following a brief illness. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late John H. Schreiber and Verna Ruhl Schreiber Carpenter. Bob was the loving husband of Joanna Weinhold Schreiber and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June of last year. Bob worked in his early years as a large equipment operator and concrete mixer driver for Binkley and Ober for 10 years; he continued his employment for the next 40 years with the former Fuller Company, now FL Smidth Company in Manheim as a Hyster Driver. He was a dedicated volunteer fireman, being a member for over 33 years with the Hope Fire Engine and Hose Company, Number One, of Manheim; and was a member of the Lancaster County Firemen’s Association. Bob was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Manheim; and played on the softball team with the church, and with Hope Fire Company. He was a very passionate Philadelphia Sports fan, cheering on his Phillies, Eagles and Flyers teams. He deeply loved his family, and cherished all the times he could spend with family and his many friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Joanna, is a son-in-law, Jeff L. Conner of Lititz, a grandson, Robert W. “Bobby” husband of Mallory Conner of Syracuse, NY, two great grandchildren: Jameson and Caroline Conner, a brother, John husband of Almeda “Mitzi” Schreiber of Manheim, two step brothers: Dave Carpenter, Rick husband of Dee Carpenter, and two step sisters: Beverly Rightnaur, and Jean wife of George Lorah. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Bonnie Sue Schreiber Conner, and a step brother, Robert Carpenter.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bob’s funeral service from St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim, on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 2:30 PM. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday afternoon from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery.
