Robert E. “Pap” Schatz, 86, of Mount Joy, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Naegel) Schatz, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage this past March. Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Harold and (Kathryn Wagner) Schatz. He was known through the area by many people as a result of being employed as a delivery man by the Garber Oil Co and the Leffler Oil Co. Pap was a faithful member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Mount Joy. Pap proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the VFW Fred Barley Post #5667 of Elizabethtown and the American Legion Walter S. Ebersole Post 185 of Mount Joy. His other interest included farming, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, most of all his grandchildren. To know him was to love him. He also was referred to as “smiley” by most because you’d never catch him without a smile on his face.
Surviving in addition to his wife Barbara are son-n-law Robert E. Miller, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two brothers Harold Schatz of Mount Joy, John husband of Joyce Schatz of Manheim, and a sister Dorothy Flowers of Dalmatia. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Marie L. Miller, and a son Robert Lee Schatz.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 27 E. Main St. Mount Joy PA (please use rear entrance) on Tuesday August 4, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. Interment with military honors will be in Mount Joy Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Tuesday at the church from 2:00 pm until the time of the service.
