Robert E. Keener, 94, of Mount Joy, died Wednesday December 15, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy. He was the widower of Thelma (Barto) Keener, who died in 1998. He was born Mount Joy (Florin) and was a graduate of the former Mount Joy High School, class of 1934. He was a comptroller for the former SICO Corp. from 1940 until 1968; he then worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier from 1968 until he retired in 1978. He proudly served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church, Mount Joy, and was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan.
Surviving is a son Brent A. Keener of Mount Joy, and two grandsons. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son Robert J. Keener, four brothers, and four sisters.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Heilig Funeral Home, 21 W. Main St., Mount Joy, PA on Monday December 20, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor John Keefer officiating. Interment will be in Camp Hill Cemetery, Mount Joy. There will be a public viewing on Monday at Heilig Funeral Home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
