Richard H. "Whitey" White, 80, of Manheim, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 29, 2012. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Leroy C. and Ruth Yingst White. Whitey retired from Yellow Freight, Lancaster where he was a truck driver for many years. He was the husband of the late Shirley A. May White who died in 1997. Whitey was baptized in the United Christian Church, Manheim. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. Whitey was an active and faithful member of the Manheim VFW where he served as Commander; and a life member of the Manheim American Legion. Other memberships included Dela-Ches Fishing Association, Elstonville Sportsmen's Association, and the Germania Band Club, Manheim. His interests included hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, participating in rodeo riding, NASCAR and following his favorite driver, the late Dale Earnhardt. Surviving are two sisters: Darlene Madara, and Alberta wife of George Matheny all of Marietta. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is a son, Richard R. White. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his graveside service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 319 Wabash Road, Ephrata on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Please omit flowers.
