Richard R. Gerlach, 76, of Manheim passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Born in West Lampeter Township, he was the son of the late Martin M. and Mae Risser Gerlach. He was the loving husband of Betty M. Lehman Gerlach and they would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in June. A self-employed contractor, Richard owned and operated Gerlach Construction. He also worked as a farmer and rancher on the family farm for twenty seven years. Richard was a member of Life Center Ministries, Harrisburg. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, James husband of Brenda Archer Gerlach, Nelson husband of Kim Holsinger Gerlach, a daughter, Carolyn wife of Steve Martin, eleven grandchildren, Cody, Bryce and Emily Gerlach of Texas, Tiffany Bruce of Oklahoma, Grace Gerlach of PA, Kaitlyn Phillips and Kieley Gerlach of Missouri, Cassandra, Savana, Chanel and Jenna Martin of PA, five great grandchildren and eight siblings, Elvin husband of Shirl Gerlach, Betty wife of Wayne Royer, Rosene wife of James Garman, Martha wife of Dave Charles, Eileen wife of Nevin Hoover, Darlene wife of Robert Noll, Dave husband of Melody Gerlach and Carl husband of Sandy Gerlach.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at Newport Church, 656 West Newport Road, Elm on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Monday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and again at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery, Rapho Township.
