Richard I. Pickel, 76, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Lancaster General Hospital after an illness of several months. Born in Landisville, he was the son of the late J.A. Laverne and Sarah (Carl) Pickel. He was raised by his mother and beloved late stepfather Parke B. Pickel. A graduate of Manheim Central High School (1966), he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably in communications in West Germany and Oklahoma. He attended LCBC-Manheim where he loved to volunteer with many dear friends. His work career was spent as a very successful grocery store manager for many local supermarkets until his health forced his retirement. Dick loved the Hershey Bears, traveling, NASCAR, and being with friends. He traveled to many countries and nearly every state. Richard was a kind and giving person as evidenced by the many friendships that he enjoyed so much. He will be truly missed.

Surviving are two nephews and a step niece. He was preceded in death by three brothers; Paul, Donald (Joanne), and Lester (Norma).

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dick’s Memorial Service at LCBC-Manheim (Auditorium South Entrance), 2392 Mount Joy Road, Manheim, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM. There will be a time of visitation from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. Per Dick’s request, please dress casually or wear a Hershey Bears jersey. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Dick’s memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
