Richard M. “Dick” Canfield

Reverend Richard M. “Dick” Canfield, 95, of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Born in Munden, Kansas, he was the son of the late Roy A. and Lois Williams Canfield. Dick was the loving husband of Elizabeth Mahaffey Canfield of Manheim for 22 years. His first wife of 47 years was the late Juanita Lortz Canfield who died in May of 1992. Dick was a member of Hershey Free Church where he had served on the interim pastoral team and as visitation pastor. He also served as visitation pastor at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church. He was a well-known family counselor; and in his early years Dick worked as a counselor for Philhaven Behavioral Health in Mount Gretna; later he operated Keys Counseling Center in Manheim. Dick was founder, director, and producer of a distinguished inspirational radio program “Keys to Better Living” that was broadcast through national syndication and locally through WDAC radio for 23 years. An entrepreneur, Dick was the founder of Rocky Mountain Snacks in Wyoming; he also had a keen interest in beekeeping and in his later years enjoyed selling his own local honey. He had a deep life-long passion for his Lord and for his family; and felt blessed that he could humbly help those in need through his life and ministry. Dick had a deep passion to pray with and for others.
Surviving in addition to his wife Elizabeth are three sons: Ronald Canfield of Tampa, FL, David husband of Maria Canfield of Los Gatos, CA, Richard D. Canfield of Raleigh, NC, four daughters: Cheryl O’Brien of Wake Forest, NC, Patti Canfield of Scottsdale, AZ, Jan wife of Bill Longenecker of Manheim, Joyce wife of Steven Courtney of Manheim, 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and a brother, Donald husband of Mary Ann Canfield of Bellville, KS. Preceding him in death is a son, Robert Canfield, a daughter, Judith Forry Gatchell, and a sister, Doris Davenport.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dick’s service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at the Manheim Brethren In Christ Church, 54 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the church on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM with additional viewing time on Monday morning from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Manheim Fairview Cemetery.
