Richard G. Wenger, 88, formerly of Sporting Hill, left his home for his Heavenly Home on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Rufus and Elsie Givler Wenger. Richard was the loving husband of Nettie A. Sweigart Wenger and they would have observed their 68th wedding anniversary in March of this year. A life-long farmer, he was the owner and operator of Shady Creek farm in Rapho Township. Richard was known for raising Brown Swiss Cows on his farm. He was a faithful member of Hernley Mennonite Church, Manheim, and served as usher for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters: Jane Showalter of Mount Joy, Doris J. wife of Del Wissler of Mount Joy, a son, Donald S. husband of Cheryl L. Shelly Wenger of Manheim, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and a sister, Margaret Miller of Lancaster. Preceding him in death is a son-in-law, Ray Showalter, a brother, Victor Wenger, and four sisters: Miriam Wenger, Dorothy Graybill, Mildred Groff, and Grace Eshleman.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Hernley Mennonite Church 746 Lebanon Road, Manheim, on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers.
