Richard E. Shelly, 82, of Manheim, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Manor Care Health Services, Lancaster. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Norman D. and Anna E. Smith Shelly. Richard worked as a tool maker for the former Raymark Industries, Manheim. He was the loving husband of Josephine F. Achey Shelly and they observed their 54th wedding anniversary in April of this year. Richard had a passion for gas powered engines of all types. He was known as an expert in the design and construction of gas powered engines and sold over 175 engines during his life time. Richard held memberships in the Tri-State Gas Engine Association, Spark Plug Collectors of America, Midwest Gas Engine Association, and the Rough and Tumble Engineers. He was also a member of Ruhl's United Methodist Church, Manheim and a life member of the Manheim Historical Association. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons: Dr. Eric N. Shelly husband of Dr. Margaret Lee of West Chester, Glenn H. Shelly of Lititz, Alan R. Shelly of Manheim, three grandchildren: Christopher Shelly, Rowan Shelly, and Rosalie Shelly. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the Ruhl's United Methodist Church 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, on Saturday afternoon, September 22, 2012 at 3:30 PM. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Saturday afternoon from 2:30 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Richard's memory to Ruhl's United Methodist Church Nursery School 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
