Reverend Roy J. Peterman of Manheim, PA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at his home.
Born in Carlisle, PA to the late Raymond and Myrtle Peterman, Roy was the husband of Lois Jean Kreider Peterman to whom he was married for 58 years. He is survived by his three daughters: Joyce Hughes, wife of Shaun, Manheim; Nancy Payne, wife of George; Harrisburg, and Carol Hess, wife of Dale, Mount Joy and five grandchildren: Mallory, Laura, Eli and Jacob Hess, and Alyssa Payne.
He is also survived by his twin brother Ralph Peterman, husband of Lois, Carlisle, and Howard Peterman, husband of Carol, Marysville.
As a child, Roy accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 11. During his years at Messiah College (1953-1957) he felt the call to pastoral studies and went on to earn his Master of Divinity degree at Eastern Baptist Seminary in Philadelphia (1960). Years later he completed his Doctor of Ministry degree at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA (1983).
He was privileged to serve as a pastor for the Brethren in Christ Church Conference for over four decades, serving at the Manor Brethren in Christ Church (1960-1970), Cross Roads Brethren in Christ Church (1970-1975), Wainfleet Brethren in Christ Church, Ontario, Canada (1975-1981), Manheim Brethren in Christ Church (1981-1994 and 2003-2007),Pequea Brethren in Christ Church (1994-1997), Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church (1997-2000) and Hempfield Brethren in Christ Church (2000-2002).
In addition to his role as pastor and shepherd, Roy served the church in numerous other ways throughout his life. He officiated at countless weddings and funerals, visited community and church families in their homes and the hospital, and encouraged many to join him in the family of God.
Roy was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, sports, travel, and playing table games with his family.
Services to honor the Lord’s faithfulness in the life of Roy J. Peterman will be held at the Manheim Brethren in Christ Church, 54 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 4:00 in the afternoon. Relatives and friends are invited to share in a time of fellowship and refreshments following the service.
