R. Dale McDowell, 80, of Elizabethtown, died unexpectedly, Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Masonic Health Care Center, Elizabethtown. Born in Vandergrift, PA, he was the son of the late Franklin and Arlena (Stitt) McDowell. Dale was the loving husband of Lavonna (Trent) McDowell and they celebrated 56 years of marriage in June 2013. Dale was a retired Vice President of the former Ingredient Technology Corp. of Chicago. He was a graduate of Penn State University, and Carnegie-Mellon University with an M.S. in Industrial Administration. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the John S. Sell Memorial Chapel at Masonic Village, both of Elizabethtown. He was a member of Infinity Lodge # 546 F&AM of Penn Hills, PA, and the B.P.O.E. of Apollo, PA. In his spare time and during his retirement Dale was an avid golfer.
Surviving in addition to his wife Lavonna is a daughter Heather McDowell wife of Larry Norton of Potomac, MD; two grandchildren Kelsey and Ethan Norton; and a brother Don, husband of Martha McDowell of Medina, OH.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown PA, on Tuesday April 15, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. There will be a public viewing on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
Committal services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.
