Philip H. Gaus Sr., 62, of Marietta passed away at home peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Jay Monroe and Josephine Mathiot Gaus. He was the loving husband of Christine C. Collins Gaus and they would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this month. Philip retired in August as a driver for the Manheim Auto Auction; previously he worked for John Copes Corn, Rheems. He was a member of the VFW in Lawn, PA. His interests included horses, especially horse racing, fishing, camping, going to the beach and he enjoyed the outdoors.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Philip H. Jr. husband of Crystal L. Gaus of Marietta, Eric S. Gaus at home, a daughter, Karen L. Gaus of Marietta, one grandson, Gavin, a sister, Josephine Zeamer of Northampton, MA and a step sister, Carol Zink of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jay Monroe Gaus and a sister, Mary Ellen Waughtel.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Heilig Funeral Home, 21 West Main Street, Mount Joy on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Marietta Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
