Paul E. Welliver, 86, of Lititz, died peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Lancashire Hall. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Paul B. Welliver and Kathryn Grabill Welliver James. Paul married Doris M. Nutt on May 25, 1951 at Christ Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown officiated by the Reverend Dr. Raymond Fetter. They happily celebrated their 66th anniversary in May 2017. Doris passed away in October of this year.
For 32 years Paul worked in the claims department at Lititz Mutual Insurance Company. He retired in 1997 as Vice President of the claims division; previously he was employed at Mount Joy Mutual Insurance Company. Paul earned the CPCU designation as a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter through his years of experience and education in the insurance industry. Paul was past president of the PA Claims Association. Immediately after the devastation from Hurricane Camille in August of 1969, Paul traveled to Mississippi, and spent many weeks in the south helping families through his professional work, to file claims for property, homes and businesses that were damaged or completely destroyed.
Paul was a 1949 graduate of Elizabethtown High School. An active and faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lititz; Paul sang in the choir, served on church council and as church treasurer for many years. Paul had a life-long passion for music and was a member and clarinet player for the New Holland Band for 50 years, as well as a member of the Musician’s Union Local 294 where he served on the executive board. Paul was also a member and clarinet player for many years of the Bainbridge Band. He was a member and past president of the Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are two sons: Gilbert P. husband of Carol Welliver of Lititz, Thomas J. Welliver of Lititz, a daughter, Mary K. Welliver of Manheim, two grandsons: William H. husband of Melinda Welliver and John P. Welliver, and a half brother, Bob Welliver of Georgia.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Paul’s funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 216 South Broad Street, Lititz, on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM. There will be a viewing on Friday afternoon at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Machpelah Cemetery, Lititz.
