Patricia "Pat" J. Greenawalt Gerfen, of Lititz, passed away surrounded by her family on December 25, 2023, at the age of 93. She was born in Lancaster, and was the daughter of the late M. Frances Greenawalt. She was the wife of the late Robert G. Gerfen to whom she was married to for 52 years prior to his passing in 2002.
Pat grew up in Lancaster and graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School in the Class of 1948 and was class treasurer. She worked at Armstrong World Industries, and later for Farmers First Bank in Lititz before retiring in 1988.
Pat loved to travel and enjoyed trips throughout the US, the Caribbean, and Europe. In her retirement years she also organized bus trips. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping and finding a great bargain. Playing pinochle was another favorite pastime and she still played twice a week. Pat was also an avid reader, especially historical books. Family always looked forward to her delicious home cooked dinners especially for homemade fresh corn pie. Holiday meals would always include her homemade biscuits made from an old family recipe.
With all that said, there was nothing that made her happier than spending time with her family.
Pat was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lititz. She was a longtime church greeter and a past president of the Faith, Hope, and Charity Sunday School Class. Pat was a 71 year member of the Lititz Springs Chapter #499, Order of the Eastern Star. She also belonged to the Lititz Women's Club. During elections she worked at the Lititz Borough polls. Through the years Pat enjoyed volunteering and continued at Luther Acres where she would call bingo games and help at the community store.
She is survived by her two sons: Mike (Penny) Gerfen; Jon (Sue Hehnly) Gerfen; both of Lititz. She has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Chris.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the Luther Acres skilled care staff for all their loving care and support given to Pat during her short illness.
