P. Richard “Rick” Hershey, 77, of Manheim, died peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2014, at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of the late Paul G. and Helen E. Gaus Hershey. Rick was a real estate agent and broker for Brownstone Realty, in Hershey. He was the former owner of Penn Realty, Manheim. Rick was a veteran of the US Army. He attended Chiques Church of the Brethren, Manheim.
Well known as the Manheim Barons #1 fan, Rick was an active member of the Manheim Touchdown Club. He was a passionate supporter of athletic booster clubs throughout the greater Manheim area, and sponsored numerous sports teams and individual athletes over the years. He was an avid Hershey Bears hockey fan, holding season tickets. Active in the Manheim community, Rick was a member of the Historical Society and was inducted into the Manheim Central Hall for Fame for his community service. Most recently, he loved doing volunteer work for the Derry Township People Movers, helping senior citizens with their transportation needs.
Rick is survived by a brother J. Kenneth husband of Milenna Hershey, of Hershey, a sister Darlene L. wife of E. Eugene Shenk, of Manheim, five nieces, 2 nephews, and many grand-nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing in the Hoffer Auditorium at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Friday evening from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, with additional viewing time at the church on Saturday morning, from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Graybill’s Brethren Cemetery, Elm, PA.
