Norman M. “Pud” Bender, Jr., 93, formerly of Salunga, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Mennonite Home, Lancaster, where he was a resident for 15 years. He was the husband of the late Pearle (Daihl) Bender who died in 1996. Born in Landisville he was the son of the late Norman M, Sr. and Annie (Seitz) Bender. “Pud” as he was affectionately known was a self-employed farmer for many years and then worked in the plating dept. at the former Hamilton Watch Co. of Lancaster. Pud was a 78 year member, former deacon, and choir member of the Church of God of Landisville. His hobbies included bee keeping, gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Surviving are two daughters L. Elaine Rhen of Landisville, Linda wife of Roy Weidler of Austin, PA; two sons Larry L. Bender of Mechanicsburg, and Lynn husband of Jean (McEllhenney) Bender of Ironville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters F. Jean wife of Ed Funk of Washington Boro, and Lucille Weaver of Denver; and a brother Robert S. husband of Aileen Bender of Lancaster. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Yvonne Covert, three brothers, and four sisters. The children would like to express their gratitude to the Mennonite Home and staff for their love and care of their father for the past 15 years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at the Church of God of Landisville, 171 Church St. Landisville, PA on Friday June 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Landisville Mennonite Cemetery will be private. There will be a time of visitation with family following the service in the fellowship hall.
