Nancy E. Burgess, 76, of Manheim, died peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at home. Born in Lisburn, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Hoover Shaffner. For over ten years Nancy was the loving companion of Edward H. “Red” Campbell. In her early years Nancy worked in the house-keeping department of Days Inn in Dillsburg. She was a member of Grantham Brethren In Christ Church, and recently attended Jerusalem Church in Penryn. Nancy and her companion Red enjoyed camping at Williams Grove Campground and attending Blain Heritage Days, where they would exhibit curious items from the past both antiques, treasures, and one-of-a-kind items they collected over the years. She was a member of the PA Blue Bird Association. Her interests included: crocheting, gardening, bird watching, camping, Blue Grass Music, and square dancing.
Surviving in addition to her companion, Red, are two sons: Michael A. husband of Sonya Burgess of Shelbyville, TN., Eddie L. Burgess of York, five grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, a brother, Murray Shaffner of Andersontown, and two sisters: Laura Miller of Hurst, TX., and Carol Maas of Granbury, TX. Preceding her in death is a daughter, Beverly A. Schrieber, and a brother, Roger Shaffner.
The family would like to thank Hospice and Community Care Staff, and all the close friends that provided support and loving care to Nancy during her illness.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Nancy’s memorial service at Jerusalem Church, 1620 Newport Road, Manheim, (in the village of Penryn), on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 3:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
