Nancy A. Hershey, 79 of Manheim, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus after a brief illness at her home on Monday, August 18, 2014. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late, Walter S. and Edna Weinhold Longenecker. Nancy was a 1952 graduate of Rothsville High School. She was the loving wife of Jay S. “Si” Hershey and they would have observed their 61st wedding anniversary in October of this year. Nancy worked beside her husband as a partner in the family farm in Rapho Township for over 50 years. She also worked part-time at the Manheim Auto Auction for 37 years in the food department. Nancy was an active and faithful member of Calvary Church, Lancaster, and helped with the children’s ministry. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian role model to everyone she met. Nancy’s life-long passion was her family; she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, and extending hospitality at her home. Nancy will be loved and missed by her family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are two sons: Jerry L. husband of Ann M. Rowe Hershey, Dean J. husband of Yvonne “Bird” Walker Hershey all of Manheim, two daughters: Donna L. wife of Jere Bollinger of Lititz, Shirley A. wife of Paul E. Horning of Stevens, fourteen grandchildren: Wendell Hershey, Michael Hershey, Gary Hershey, Adam Bollinger, Ashley Stauffer, Bob Bruner, Janet Stroud, Katina Evans, Darius Seiple, Amy LeLand, Jamie Lusby, Dustin Horning, Kelly Zimmerman, Lindsay Thomas, thirty-three great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, two sisters: Reba wife of Jay Miller of Lititz, and Ruth wife of Dick Poff of Brogue. Preceding her in death is an infant son, Donald Hershey and a brother, James Longenecker.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10:30 AM. There will be a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Hess Mennonite Cemetery, Lititz. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Nancy’s memory to Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services, 131 South 8th Street, Lebanon, PA 17042 or Calvary Church Mission Fund, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
