Monroe C. “Monnie” Wonder, Jr., 83, of Lititz, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Lititz, he was the son of the late Monroe C. and Evelyn Hershey Wonder. He was the loving husband of Marion R. Sturgis Wonder and they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in June.
Monroe owned and operated Wonder’s Barber Shop, Lititz where he was a barber for fifty years. He graduated from the former Lititz High School in 1950 and from Harrisburg Barber College.
Monroe proudly served in the United States Navy with the Airship Development Squadron Eleven during the Korean War. He was a member of Lititz United Methodist Church, Flying Tigers RC Airplane Club, Manheim. A 32nd degree Mason, Monroe was a member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge #587 F&AM and the Reading Consistory. Monroe enjoyed open wheel racing, vacationing in Ocean Pines, Maryland and he loved to spend time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Monroe C. III husband of Tonya Dayhoff Wonder of Lititz and John R. husband of Trudy McCarty Wonder of Ocean City, Maryland.
