Miriam M. Cassel, formerly of 782 Fruitville Pike, Manheim, died peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz. Born in York County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Maggie Herman Miller. Miriam was the loving wife of the late Amos H. Cassel who died in August of 2010. Miriam helped her husband in the founding of Cassel’s Sign and Furniture Shop in 1945. She continued to work alongside her husband as they started to concentrate on the sign business in 1962. The sign business continues operating with the family ownership to this day. Miriam was an active and faithful member of the White Oak Church of the Brethren, Manheim. For over 35 years Miriam was an active participant with the New York Fresh Air Fund. Both Miriam and Amos enjoyed spending many of their winters in North Fort Myers, Florida. Miriam also enjoyed gardening throughout the years.
Surviving is a daughter, Joyce E. wife of Stanley R. Boyer of Thomasville, a son, Dale E. Cassel of Manheim, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death is a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Heisey Cassel, a granddaughter, Emily Nolt, and two brothers: Ivan F. Miller and Ernest H. Miller.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Miriam’s funeral service at the White Oak Church of the Brethren, 1211 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Longenecker’s Brethren Cemetery, Lititz.
