Mildred S. “Millie” Wonder, 88, formerly of Brickerville, passed on at the United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, on Thursday, August 14, 2014. Born in Brickerville, she was the daughter of the late, William P. and Mazie Spangler Young. Millie was the loving wife of the late, Carl E. Wonder who passed away in December 1995. She graduated from Ephrata High School. Millie worked in her earlier years in the office for J.C. Penney, Ephrata, and Henry B. Hoover Company, Ephrata, which later became Ephrata Agway. In 1985 Millie retired after 20 years from Fulton Bank, Akron/Ephrata branch as a teller. She was a lifetime faithful member of Brickerville United Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and helped with the sewing circle. Millie was active with the Friendly Circle a local Senior Citizens group where she participated in activities and tours. Millie enjoyed entering items of food, flowers, and fancy sewing work at the Ephrata and Manheim Farm Shows and was very proud of all the ribbons she won. She was known for her quilting, crocheting and special detailed sewing. Millie loved her cats that she cared for throughout the years.
Surviving are two daughters: Susan L. wife of Gregory R. Bomberger, Patricia A. wife of Samuel Francis Smith III, all of Lititz, one grandson, Matthew Richard husband of Amy Sue Bomberger, two granddaughters: Angela wife of Joshua Thompson, Tracy wife of the late Andrew Salsgiver, three great-granddaughters: Samantha, Katherine, and Margaret Thompson, two great grandsons, David Thompson, Travis Salsgiver, and two sisters: Jeanette wife of Earl Frable and Evelyn Steffy all of Lititz. Millie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Chester, Howard, William, and Kenneth Young, and four sisters: Edith May, Miriam Groff, Alta Myer & Bernetha Birkenbine.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Millie’s Funeral Service at Brickerville United Lutheran Church, 340 East 28th Division Hwy, Lititz, on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Brickerville Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
