Mildred Marie Pickel

Mildred "Millie" Marie Funk Pickel, 84, formerly of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at Presbyterian Manor of Salina, Kansas. Born in Conestoga, PA, she was the daughter of the late Martin W. and Verdna Keperling Funk. Following the death of her husband, Marvin M. Pickle, after 55 years of marriage, she moved to Salina in September 2003. Millie was raised on the Funk family farm in the rolling hills near Safe Harbor. She worked for over 25 years as a nursing aid at Lancaster General Hospital. Her pleasures included widespread travel, family gatherings at Ocean City, NJ, and entertaining friends. She was a former member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Paradise, PA. Millie will be missed by her two sons, Thomas husband of Phyllis Pickel of Salina, KS, James husband of Ronda Pickel of Lancaster, and two daughters, Catherine wife of Donald Herneisen of Lancaster, Barbara wife of Mark Chaffee of Salina, KS, seven grandchildren and two great grandsons. Surviving siblings of Mildred include Catherine "Kitty" Spotts of Millersville and Norman Funk of Conestoga. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Green Hill United Methodist Church, 5801 River Road, Conestoga, with Pastor Richard W. Conner officiating. Interment will be private at St. John's United Methodist Cemetery, Paradise. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mildred's memory may be sent to Good Samaritan Fund at Salina Presbyterian Manor, 2601 E. Crawford, Salina, KS 67401.
