Mildred F. Lehman

Mildred F. "Milly" Lehman, 93 formerly of East Hempfield Township, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January, 10, 2012 at Brethren Village Retirement Community Lancaster. Born in East Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Phares J. and Naomi Graybill Forney. Millie was the loving wife of Henry S. Lehman and they observed their 70th wedding anniversary in June of last year. For many years she was a homemaker who assisted her husband, Henry S. Lehman in his electrical contracting business located in East Hempfield Township. Earlier in her life she taught in a one-room schoolhouse and also taught at East Petersburg Elementary. She also enjoyed working part time for S. Clyde Weaver Inc. East Petersburg. Millie was an active and faithful member of the Hempfield Church of the Brethren East Petersburg, where she served on the church board and was the first woman chair serving for five years. A deacon emeritus, she also was active with women's fellowship, serving as president, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday and bible school. She was a member of the Lancaster County Farm Women, Number 19, for over 55 years and served as president. Milly volunteered for Easter Seals for over 21 years; and also at Brethren Village. Her interests included: oil painting, flower gardening and arranging, cooking, baking, and making cookies and candy that she shared with family and friends. Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, James H., husband of Peg Katonah Lehman of Elgin, IL.; three daughters, Ann Lehman, wife of Alan A. Suits of Santa Fe, NM, Carol J. Lehman, of Seattle, WA., Susan K. Lehman of Elgin, IL; two grandchildren, Jessica Kate, wife of Steven Jakobovic, Joseph M. Beaty; and four sisters: Ella Mae Fike of Bridgewater, VA., Dorothy, wife of Fred Rice of Elizabethtown, Nancy Bowman of Mobile, Alabama, and Jean, wife of David Davidson of Jacksonville, FL. Preceding her in death is a grandson, Joshua R. Lehman, two brothers: Ray and John Forney and a sister, Anna Mary Dubble. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at the Hempfield Church of the Brethren, corner of Stevens Street and Metzler Road, East Petersburg on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Hempfield Church of the Brethren Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster on Friday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
