Michael A. "Mike" Hudick

August 19, 1946 — February 10, 2024

Manheim

   Michael A. Hudick, 77 of Manheim, and formerly of Lancaster Township; died peacefully at home, on Saturday, February 10, 2024 following a courageous battle against a very aggressive cancer.  Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Michael and Anne Mudrowsky Hudick. Michael was the loving husband of Karen A. Pfeiffer Hudick and they would have observed their 48th wedding anniversary in July of this year.  Mike graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School and continued his education receiving a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in English. Mike held memberships with PSEA, ELCEA, NEA, and PA National Safety Association. For over 31 years Mike was a Driver’s Education Teacher at Garden Spot High School retiring in 2001. During his teaching career Mike created the driver’s education curriculum for the school, became a PA Certified Drivers Testing Agent, and was a Certified Motorcycle Instructor. Throughout his life he had a deep passion for auto racing. Mike was a member of the Sports Car Club of America, and raced formula Vee Cars throughout Central Pennsylvania. He joined well known Formula Race Car Drivers working for their teams as a mechanic or on their pit crews in races throughout the United States and Europe. Both Mike and Karen loved Formula One racing. Mike’s other passion was Trap Shooting. He is a member of the PA Sportsmen Shot Gun Association, and the American Trap Association. Mike and his wife shot competitive Trap and attended many PA and other state shoots where they competed with each other and many shooters. In addition, Mike shot 100 straight twice in competition. 

   Mike participated in “People to People” Educational Exchanges where he visited in Russia and China extensively. Mike loved traveling with his wife and would go anywhere she wanted especially in Europe. His interests included: woodworking, making many fine furniture pieces, fishing, and designing and crafting his own fishing rods. Mike will be deeply missed by family and friends. He had a helping spirit and was always willing to help those in need.

  Surviving in addition to his wife Karen, is a sister Mary Ann wife of Michael Keller of Lancaster, two nieces: Elizabeth wife of Kenny Long of Florida, Megan Keller of Lancaster, and a nephew, Joel Hollies of York. Preceding Mike in death will be his beloved dogs: Pepper, Barney, Ziggy, and Nugget. 

    Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mike’s Celebration of Life Service at the Buch Funeral Home, 216 South Broad Street, Lititz, on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM with additional viewing on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman. Those desiring may send contributions in Mike's memory to the National Wildlife Federation, P.O. Box 1583, Merrifield, VA 22116-1583.
