Michael A. Bates, 44, of Petersburg Road, Lancaster, formerly of Manheim, left us to be with Jesus while enjoying his passion, riding motorcycle, on Friday, July 15, 2011. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Rodney G. and Lois Woodward Bates of Manheim. He was the husband of Lisa M. Baltozer Bates and they celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary in February of this year. Michael was the Supervisor of Electronics/Animatronics Design and Manufacturing at Sight & Sound Theatres, Strasburg. He graduated from Manheim Central High School in 1984 and from the former Electronics Institute, Middletown. Michael was an active member at Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim where he served on several committees. He was also a member of the Manheim Sportsman's Association and the NRA. His interests included camping, riding motorcycles, dirt bikes, working on and repairing cars and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two daughters, Tianna C. Bates of Lititz, Meghan N. Geltmacher at home and a son, Stephen K. Geltmacher and fianc" Jessica L. Stumpf of Lancaster, two grandsons, Kamron and Isaiah, two sisters, Robin wife of Kevin Stone of Millersville, Randi Horst of Mount Joy and two brothers-in-law, William husband of Lu Baltozer of Manheim and Joseph husband of Kathy Baltozer of Mount Joy, several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a celebration of Michael's Life at Salem United Methodist Church, 140 North Penn Street, Manheim on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 4:00 PM with Rev. Melinda L. McKonly officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
