Merton E. "Mert" Porta

June 4, 1932 — November 7, 2014

Merton E. “Mert” Porta, 82, of Manheim joined his beautiful wife in eternal rest on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Born in Altoona, he was the son of the late Wendilyn and Goldie Cote Porta. He was the loving husband of the late Carol L. Porta who died in 2013. Mert owned and operated Hilltop General Truck Service, Manheim for over forty years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and he was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church, Manheim.
Surviving are five children, Michael husband of Penny Porta of Lebanon, Timothy husband of Jodi Porta of Lancaster, Cathy wife of Willis Nolt of Rehrersburg, James Porta of Georgia, Sharon wife of Shannon Winfindale of Manheim, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and two sisters. He was preceded in death by twelve siblings.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Richard Catholic Church, 110 North Oak Street, Manheim on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. There will be a public viewing at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Please omit flowers. Those desiring may send contributions in Merton’s memory to St. Richard Catholic Church, 110 North Oak Street, Manheim, PA 17545.
