Melvin L. Metzler

June 8, 1937 — June 29, 2011

Melvin L. Metzler, 74, of Metzler Road, Manheim went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz. Born in East Hempfield Township, he was the son of the late Landis L. and Ella Mae Zug Metzler. Mel was the loving husband of Gladys Nissley Metzler and they observed their 48th wedding anniversary in September of last year. A life-long farmer, Mel also enjoyed being a host for guests at his Penn's Valley Farm and Inn. For many years Mel also drove truck for the former Hoffman Seed Company in Landisville. He was a faithful member of the Hempfield Church of the Brethren, East Petersburg. Throughout his life Mel had a passion for his family and friends. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Connie M. Metzler wife of Marc Head of East Petersburg, a son, Ronald L. Metzler of Lewisberry, two sisters: Dorothy M. wife of Ervin H. Martin of East Petersburg, and M. Geraldine wife of Lloyd L. Goss of Manheim. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Donna Metzler. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Hempfield Church of the Brethren, corner of Stevens Street and Metzler Road, East Petersburg on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 2:00 PM with his Pastor John Layman officiating. Interment is in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the church on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
