Melvin E. "Barney" Bissinger

January 28, 1925 — July 21, 2013


Melvin E. “Barney” Bissinger, 88, of Manheim, died peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Lancashire Hall, Lancaster. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Roy and Sarah Myers Bissinger. Barney was the loving husband of June D. Myers Bissinger and they observed their 65th wedding anniversary in November of last year. For over twenty years he worked for the Fuller Company, Manheim, following retirement he was employed part time for twenty years for the Manheim Auto Auction. Barney served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim. His interests included: bowling, golfing, taking long walks and was a life-long New York Yankees Baseball Fan. Barney was also a passionate supporter of the Manheim Central Baron’s Football Team traveling to all of their games throughout the years.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Michael husband of Donna Bissinger of Elizabethtown, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a brother, Donald husband of Virginia Bissinger of Landisville, two sisters: Rubye Barto of Manheim, Doreen Myers of Lancaster, and a son-in-law Carl Dommel of Lititz. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Christine Dommel, and a brother, Durell Bissinger.

At the family’s request there will be no services.
