Megan Anna Hummer, 31 of Landisville, died Monday, November 28, 2016 from an accidental heroin overdose, while living in a recovery home in Pottstown. Born in Lancaster, she was the beloved daughter of Kathy L. Hummer of Landisville and J Robert Hummer of Lititz.
Megan’s beautiful smile, goofy sense of humor, sensitivity and compassion for all human and animal souls touched the lives of everyone she met. Especially those whom she met in rehab and recovery. She was a natural counsellor, confidant and friend to all.
Megan wanted nothing more than to lead a life of sobriety. Her goal was to maintain one year of sobriety so she could find a job helping those suffering the same disease. She would have been the best!
However, the demons of addiction would not allow it. For 16 years she fought through Hell and back, while enduring experiences the non-addicted could only imagine.
It was always Megan’s hope that addiction be seen not as a choice, nor as a moral failure, but as a chronic relapsing brain disease over which many addicts have no control. She will be forever loved, adored, admired, respected and greatly missed by those who knew her.
Surviving in addition to her parents, are maternal grandparents, Anthony and Nancy Wenger of Richland, a brother, Anton R., husband of Amy Hummer of Manheim, two half-brothers: Jonathan B., husband of Patti Hummer of Manheim, and Christopher A. Hummer of Sterling, Virginia.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Megan’s memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers. Those desiring may send contributions in Megan’s memory to: The Dream Weaver Fund – Malvern Institute - Scott Weisenberger, 240 Fitzwatertown Road, Willow Grove PA 19090.
