Matthew P. McElheny, born March 25, 1965 in Warsaw, New York, passed away at the age of 50 while residing at his home in Cornwall Borough. He cleaned his final rock garden of life and bunny hopped his way to heaven on Thursday, May 28, 2015. Matt fought a courageous battle against ALS.
Matt is survived by his wife, Desiree of 13 years, their fur babies, (cats, Dora and Jennie), his mother Norma, and siblings Debbie, Nathan, Karen, Ruth and Phil. Preceding him in death was his father Daniel.
Matt proudly served his country as a serviceman in the Navy during the Gulf War.
An avid cyclist, Matt had a passion for mountain biking and trail advocacy. He was known for his willingness to try anything out on the bike trail and could descend a gnarly downhill like no other!
Matt was also known for his gentle demeanor and willingness to help others in need and a goofy sense of humor. He was most skillful as an IT Professional for Holy Spirit Hospital where he worked for 8 years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Matt’s Celebration of Life Service at the Manheim Brethren in Christ Church, 54 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA., on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 3:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Matt’s memory to the ALS Foundation, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002 or the Susquehanna Area Bike Association (SAMBA) P.
