Mary Rohrer Sterling, 95, a long-time resident of Landis Homes, went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2015, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Mount Joy on January 20, 1920, she was the second of three children of the late Enos B. and Beulah D. Rohrer. Her brother Benjamin D. Rohrer and sister Gloria Mae Zerphey preceded her in death. She was married for 50 years to the late Ned E. Sterling, who died in 1990.
Mary attended the former Mount Joy High School until 1935 when economic conditions required her to leave school and seek employment. She married Ned E. Sterling in September of 1940 and was a homemaker for a number of years while their children attended school. She retired form Manheim Township School District after being employed part-time at Nathan C. Schaeffer Elementary School where she managed the school cafeteria. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, from its founding in 1963. Mary resided at 1533 Eden Road until moving to Landis Homes after the death of her husband.
Surviving are a son Ned E. II, husband of Sue E. Sterling of Mount Joy; a daughter Mary Jo, wife of Steven Bucklen of Landisville; four grandchildren, Tristan Eshbach-Johnston (Seth), Nathaniel Sterling (Laura), Dr. Brandon Bucklen, Vanessa Fisher (Benjamin); and two great grandchildren, Rowan and Sorra Eshbach.
A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family at the Buch Funeral Home, Mount Joy, with the Reverend Keith Irvine officiating. Burial will follow at Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster. Contributions in Mary’s memory may be sent to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte NC 28201.
